Healing Winds Visitor Education Center

Healing Winds Visitor Education CenterMany of CROW's public outreach efforts take place in the organization's pioneering Healing Winds Visitor Education Center, which opened in January 2009. Here, immersive, hands-on exhibits and live video footage present exciting animal stories, and guests of all ages are invited to participate in wildlife seminars and special events throughout the year. The center also documents CROW's evolution from a group of concerned citizens working together to assist injured animals to one of the country's leading rehabilitation facilities for native and migratory wildlife.

Highlights

  • Play the role of animal doctor through the touch-screen "Be The Vet game", which invites participants to try their hand at patient diagnosis, and the "Daily Care" activity that asks players to identify appropriate treatment options.
  • Take a behind-the-scenes look at wildlife medicine and the patient rehabilitation process with live video footage fed from CROW's veterinary hospital.
  • Walk through the rescue, treatment, rehabilitation and release of CROW patients by viewing themed displays that highlight the process.
  • Get to know some of the special reptiles, mammals and birds that CROW has treated over the past 40 years through engaging photographic exhibits.
  • Learn how to protect native wildlife and their habitats, and see other ways humans can help animals, through enticing educational displays.
  • Celebrate CROW's history with photographs and panels that spotlight four decades of compassionate care and outreach.
  • Shop for nature-themed clothing, books, gifts and toys at the J. Howard Wood Gift Shop, which contributes 100 percent of its profits to patient care at CROW's clinic.
